The story of Thuringian nougat began when the siblings Willi Viebahn and Anna Reim founded the "Café Viebahn" with their own confectionery production in Schmalkalden, Thuringia. In the affiliated production facility, nougat was initially produced in blocks. The product enjoyed growing popularity and demand rose steadily, which meant that the workforce could no longer keep up with packing the blocks. Even if you may not believe it, production was finally accelerated by a cigar packaging system. This made it possible to meet the high demand. The block became the nougat stick that is still popular today in 1920!
