Description
DR KNOLL ROESTI
Swiss-style potato rösti are a classic Swiss dish made from grated potatoes fried in a pan to form a crispy flatbread. They are golden brown and crispy on the outside, and soft and juicy on the inside. In Switzerland, rösti are considered both a side dish (e.g., with meat dishes, fried eggs, or vegetables) and a main course, often served with a fried egg, bacon, cheese, or herbs.
Rösti originated in the canton of Bern, more precisely in the Bernese Midlands. There, in the 19th century, they were considered a typical farmer's breakfast: simple, nutritious food made from potatoes, which were available on almost every farm. At that time, many farmers' breakfast consisted of a large rösti – often fried in a pan on the stove and then eaten directly from it!
